The former Brazilian leader has been taken into custody after authorities concluded he posed a concrete flight risk while under house arrest.

The ex-president was sentenced of planning a government overthrow in the ninth month and given more than over two decades in jail, but he continued under home detention pending appeals.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes said the action to imprison the septuagenarian politician was a preventative measure after fresh information were revealed.
