World Series Final Game Draws 51M Audience Members Across the United States, Canada and Japanese Regions.

The nail-biting extra-inning clash that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run attracted a total 51 million watchers in the United States, Canadian, and Japan markets. MLB stated this is the highest-rated Fall Classic Game 7 since the 1991 showdown between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s epic game secured 27.33M audience members on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. According to ratings data, it was the second most-watched program of the week.

It also is the top-rated Fall Classic game since the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07M. This marks a sixteen percent improvement over the previous finale featuring the Washington Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 placed fourth, the fourth game was seventh, Game 5 was 8th, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth place.

Global Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the game drew over 11 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English program in the country since the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final game began at 9 PM in the local time zone, it averaged 12M. This came after the previous Friday’s sixth game – where Fall Classic MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – averaged 13.1 million spectators, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a single network in Japan.

Overall Averages and Trends

The full seven-game World Series drew 15.71 million audience members on the Fox network, a two percent increase from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This represents the first time after 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has recorded viewership growth for two straight seasons.

Counting the opening game broadcast on Univision, the total American viewership reached 16.1 million. The overall Fall Classic viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew 8.09 million watchers, an eight percent increase compared to last year and Fox’s strongest postseason ratings since the 2017 season.

MLB announced that the World Series was broadcast in 203 countries and territories by forty-four media partners in 16 various languages.
